Boneyard Veterinary Imaging is a mobile ultrasound and teleradiology company that provides personalized imaging services for your veterinary business. We strive to develop close, professional relationships with our clients to ensure quality exams with helpful, well-structured reports. Phone, text and email correspondence is encouraged to meet these goals.

Service is personal. We are a small company with a focus on service. All imaging questions, recommendations and unique challenges are handled by a board certified radiologist. Take your medicine to a new level by having your own personal radiologist on staff.

Dr. Jonathan Hayles

Dr. Hayles is a long time San Diego resident, completing a Bachelor of Science at UC San Diego in Animal Physiology and Neuroscience in 2000. He completed the DVM program at UC Davis in 2006.

Dr. Hayles then pursued a competitive one-year rotating small animal internship at the Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group (VMSG) in Ventura, CA. Directly following his internship, Dr. Hayles began the radiology residency program at Washington State University (WSU) College of Veterinary Medicine. His training in diagnostic imaging included small and large animal diagnostic ultrasound, radiography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), fluoroscopy and nuclear scintigraphy. Concurrently, Dr. Hayles earned a Masters in Veterinary Science (MS) degree, with research focusing on abdominal MRI and correlations to abdominal ultrasound; specifically regarding adrenal gland anatomy.

In 2010, Dr. Hayles successfully completed the certifying ACVR examination. After several months remaining at WSU as a clinical instructor, Dr. Hayles and his wife, Andrea, returned to San Diego.

When not working, Dr. Hayles enjoys surfing, ultimate Frisbee, travelling and spending time with his wife, two sons, Alexander and Andrew (Drew), his dog (Charles Jr.) and cat (Bali).

 

Dr. Stephanie Essman

Dr. Stephanie Essman, owner of Veterinary Imaging Consultations, Inc. completed her DVM at Oklahoma State University in 1998. After a small animal rotating internship at a very busy specialty and emergency hospital in Dallas, Texas, she completed her Radiology residency/master’s program at the University of Missouri in 2003. She was an Assistant professor at the University of Missouri until 2011. During this time her research focus was based on utilizing the radiopharmaceutical Samarium-153-EDTMP in osteosarcoma treatment, but her primary interest was in teaching residents and students. She was honored to have been awarded the Golden Aesculapius Teaching award in 2005, 2007 and 2008 and the SCAVMA Teaching Excellence award in 2005.  During her tenure at the University of Missouri, she also gained extensive teleradiology experience and launched VIC, Inc. in 2007.  At the beginning of 2012, she decided to focus all efforts on her teleradiology company in order to provide the best service possible to her clientele. She enjoys consulting with veterinarians regarding cases that are submitted and utilizes her extensive teaching experience on a daily basis when discussing cases with the veterinarian.

In her free time, she enjoys cycling, backpacking, hiking and traveling. She also works closely with two California English Bulldog rescue groups, Road Dogs and Rescue and Southern California Bulldog rescue. She serves as a foster to abused and neglected bulldogs and provides her expertise in image interpretation to the Bulldog Rescue veterinarian.

Andrea Hayles

Financial and Administration Manager

Andrea is a native of Los Angeles who moved to San Diego in 1995 for college.  While in college she worked at a veterinary hospital where she and Dr. Hayles met.  She graduated from the University of San Diego with a BA in Biology.  Before having children, her career was spent in the biotech and pharmaceutical industry as a Research Associate.  Her interests include teaching dance, running, hiking.
